Our History

On September 22, 1938, nine Speed Queen employees got together and they formed the Speed Queen Credit Union to become the state's 600th credit union. On May 7, 1959, the name was changed to Ripon L.A. Credit Union (Laundry Appliance).

Several local companies looked into forming their own credit unions before joining Ripon LA. Thus, employees of Ripon Memorial Hospital and Modern Pole Builders became the 2nd and 3rd companies to make up the credit union. Four more companies from Ripon and Green Lake came next, and on September 29, 1976, the credit union became Ripon Community Credit Union. On December 10, 1982, Greater Berlin Credit Union merged with RCCU. Then the townships of Rosendale, Springvale, and Metomen were added along with all of Green Lake County. On February 1, 1992, Handcraft Employees Credit Union joined RCCU. On May 12, 2004, our name was changed to "Golden Rule" Community Credit Union, with the mission of treating everyone according to the "Golden Rule".

Like all credit unions, GRCCU is a non-profit financial cooperative owned by its members. The membership is comprised of a group of people sharing a common bond who save their money together. The accumulated funds are used to provide loans at competitive rates, which in turn pay dividends on the savings. Deposits are called "shares" because members actually become part-owners of the credit union.

Because of strong leadership throughout its history, GRCCU now offers a wide variety of services to its members. We thank all of our members for supporting "Golden Rule" Community Credit Union.
